Looking for a unique way to experience nature near Strasbourg? SensoRied in Muttersholtz offers an exciting barefoot sensory trail that lets you explore the natural world in a whole new way. With its playful mix of textures, cool river crossings, and shady paths, it's an ideal adventure for families and nature lovers alike. My daughters and I spent an hour discovering this trail, and I can’t wait to share why it's a must-do on your next visit to the region!
Just a 40-minute drive from Strasbourg, SensoRied offers a unique opportunity to kick off your shoes and reconnect with nature. At the entrance, you’ll find lockers for €2 to store your shoes and belongings while supporting the local association that maintains this wonderful place. From the very first step, the adventure begins as you cross a small bridge with your bare feet feeling the cool water of the river beneath you – an immediate sense of freedom and connection to nature.
The 1.5 km trail is well shaded and clearly marked, making it perfect for families. The path is designed to stimulate all your senses, with a variety of surfaces to walk on, from wooden branches and corn husks to soft mud and refreshing clay-filled pools.
One of the most fun and intriguing parts of the experience is plunging your hands into mystery boxes without knowing what’s inside. You’ll encounter water, leaves, sand, and pebbles – each texture offering a delightful surprise!
A charming touch is the historical nod to the area’s past. The trail follows an old railway line, and at one point, you’ll even walk along real railway sleepers. Kids love this bit, and for adults, it’s a fascinating reminder of the region’s heritage. History beneath your feet!
Looking for a cool break on a hot day? You’ll love the chance to dip your feet in the river. When it’s 30 degrees outside, it’s the perfect refreshing pause that will make the whole experience even more enjoyable!
